Luminescent alkynyl-gold(i) coumarin derivatives and their biological activity

2013

The synthesis and characterization of three propynyloxycoumarins are reported in this work together with the formation of three different series of gold(i) organometallic complexes. Neutral complexes are constituted by water soluble phosphines (PTA and DAPTA) which confer water solubility to them. The X-ray crystal structure of 7-(prop-2-in-1-yloxy)-1-benzopyran-2-one and its corresponding dialkynyl complex is also shown and the formation of rectangular dimers for the gold derivative in the solid state can be observed. A detailed analysis of the absorption and emission spectra of both ligands and complexes allows us to attribute the luminescent behaviour to the coumarin organic ligand. More…

Mollusk antimicrobial peptides A review from activity-based evidences to computer-assisted sequences

2011

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) represent the most universal immune effectors. Molluscs constitute the second largest animal phylum, after Arthropods, in term of number of species. Only a negligible number has been investigated regarding AMPs. The choice of the species to be studied relied on their economical importance and availability. First studies on molluscan AMPs dated from 1996 and were based on biological activities of biochemical-purified fractions. Such approach released all the original structures we know, with biological activity sometimes different from one isoform to another. Then, molecular biology techniques were applied to molluscan AMPs starting in 1999. Complete screening o…

Eight-membered heterocycles with two heteroatoms in a 1,2-relationship of interest in medicinal chemistry

2021

Abstract This chapter treats 1,2-diheterocines, eight membered heterocyclic systems with two heteroatoms, N, O and S, in an 1,2 relationship, exhibiting biological properties and exhaustively covers the literature from 2007 to the end of November 2019. In this period of time 1,2-diazocine, 1,2-oxazocine, 1,2-dioxocin and 1,5-dithiocin ring systems had derivatives exhibiting pharmacological activities. No articles on biological properties have been reported for 1,2-thiazocines and 1,2-oxathiocins. Besides uncondensed derivatives, 1,2-diheterocines fused with five-, six-, and seven-membered carbocycles or heterocycles have been reviewed, as well as bridged 1,2-diheterocines.

Phytochemical Profile and Antioxidant Activity of the Aerial Part Extracts from Matthiola incana subsp. rupestris and subsp. pulchella (Brassicaceae)…

2021

As part of a project aimed at investigating the Matthiola taxa endemic to Sicily (Italy), this study focused on Matthiola incana, an edible species used in the traditional medicine of various countries. Herein, the characterization of phenolic and volatile compounds, the antioxidant capacity in vitro (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil (DPPH), reducing power and Fe2+ chelating activity assays) and the toxicity test (Artemia salina lethality bioassay) of the hydroalcoholic extracts from the aerial parts of M. incana subsp. rupestris from Mt. Pellegrino (Palermo) and Mt. Erice (Trapani), and of M. incana subsp. pulchella are reported. The results are compared with those previously shown for M. inc…

Bioactive Constituents of Juniperus turbinata Guss. from La Maddalena Archipelago.

2018

A comprehensive phytochemical study of Juniperus turbinata (Cupressaceae) collected from La Maddalena Archipelago (Sardinia, Italy) is reported. Both the essential oil and the ethanolic extract obtained from the aerial parts were analyzed. The essential oil appears to belong to a new chemotype compared to other Mediterranean juniper accessions, as it was favored by geographic isolation of the isles. It showed a low content of monoterpene hydrocarbons and -terpineol, ent-manoyl oxide, 1,10-di-epi-cubenol as the major constituents. The ethanolic fraction contained mainly diterpenoids. Among these, 15-formyloxyimbricatolic acid (7) is a new natural product since it has hitherto been obtained o…

DEVELOPMENT AND QUALIFICATION OF BIOANALYTICAL METHODS FOR DEAMIDATED IFNβ-1a AND INVESTIGATION ABOUT THE MECHANISM OF ACTION

2021

Interferon beta-1a (IFNβ-1a) is a recombinant IFNβ with the tradename Rebif involved in several biological activities. Recently, it has been reported that artificial deamidation of IFNb-1a increases its biological response. Given the therapeutical potential, an investigation on the deamidated variant has been carried out via different approaches to discover the mechanism underlying this biological effect. The antiviral and immunomodulatory activity of deamidated cytokine was assessed using two precise and accurate cell-based assays. As expected, deamidated IFNβ-1a showed an increase in the biological response and its canonical pathway and receptor binding affinity were thorough analysed. De…

Artemisia arborescens essential oil composition, enantiomeric distribution and antimicrobial activity from different wild populations from the Medite…

2016

International audience; Aerial parts of Artemisiaarborescens were collected from different sites of the Mediterranean area (southwestern Algeria and southern Italy) and the chemical composition of their essential oil (EO) extracted by hydrodistillation was studied by both gas chromatography (GC) equipped with an enantioselective capillary column and GC/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The EOs obtained were tested against several Listeriamonocytogenes strains. Using GC and GC/MS, 41 compounds were identified, accounting for 96.0-98.8% of the total EO. All EOs showed a similar terpene profile, which was rich in chamazulene, -thujone, and camphor. However, the concentration of such compounds varied …

Eight-membered heterocycles with two heteroatoms in a 1,3-relationship of interest in medicinal chemistry

2022

This chapter deals with 1,3-diheterocines, eight-membered heterocyclic systems with two heteroatoms, N, O and S, in a 1,3 relationship, exhibiting biological properties and exhaustively covers the literature from 2007 to the end of November 2019. The biological results of 1,3-diazocines, 1,3-oxazocines, 1,3-dioxocins and 1,3-thiazocines, that are the largest class of 1,3-diheterocines, were collected together with the few results available for 1,3-oxathiocin and 1,3-dithiocin derivatives at that time.
